Shawn Horcoff reportedly signed a $33M, six year extension contract with the Edmonton Oilers. Horcoff had a good last season before he endured a season ending shoulder surgery. He was involved with 21 goals and 29 assists in 53 games. This might help the Oilers keep Horcoff, a premier National Hockey League player, in their uniform in the long run. This will be good news for Edmonton since Horcoff has been an important part of the club, being part of their race for the Stanley Cup in 2006. He will also raise the ticket sales for the Oilers this season.

The losses are becoming overwhelming for the Ottawa Senators. Early in the third Marc-Andre Bergeron got his second power-play goal of the game. Senators center Jason Spezza ended his playing time shortly after the first period of  game after he was abruptly layed out by an open-ice check courtesy of Freddy Meyer. The Senators also lost right wing Dany Heatley for a period of up to 6 weeks after he dislocated his shoulder . Another standout, Rick DiPietro, ended the night with over 30 saves for New York to pull off the win. Islanders forward Ruslan Fedotenko went to the dressing room for the night after getting a mouth full of ice after being struck by Senators center Mike Fisher’s arm.

John Madden scored two goals and Martin Brodeur made 29 saves to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. The game started to the Devils’ favor and thus it ended up. In the second period, Brodeur stopped Briere’s penalty with a stick save. Even though the Flyers managed to score two goals, they lost the matchup.

Sidney Crosby arrived in Edmonton for 1^st ever National Hockey League Western Canada Tour. He said he would like to have played in Wayne Gretzky’s day, the times, when goalies wore skinny pads and matches ended 9-8. Sidney Crosby plays his 1st game in Edmonton today, when his Penguins play the Oilers at Rexall Place. It is part of the inaugural Western Canadian tour for the kid from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, even though he has already played more than 180 games in the National Hockey League.

The Dallas Stars have recently lost their defenseman, who was injured during one of the previous games but believes time with team will help in his return. Norstrom had to miss the 13^th consecutive game because of his injury – fractured orbital bone and a torn ligament around his eye. Doctors say that Norstrom could be ready for the game on Wednesday against the San Jose Sharks.

Shanahan scored 2 goals and the Rangers beat the Senators 5-2, handing the National Hockey League’s EC champions their 6th straight loss on weekends. Lundqvist made thirty-two saves for his league-leading fourteenth win.
