Alex Ovechkin is one of the NHL’s biggest stars, but he’s also one of the toughest players in the league too. A few days ago, he leveled a dirty hit on Tim Gleason of the Carolina Hurricanes. They smashed knees together and both went down injured. Ovechkin was suspended for two games as a result of that hit. But that’s the kind of hit that’s designed to cause injury to the person and this is a fairly minor penalty for that kind of hit. But this is the league where people get 2 minutes off the ice for inciting acts that outside the stadium would be aggravated assault. Ovechkin is back, but since he hurt himself on the attack, my guess is that he learned his own lesson to an extent. Hopefully the PR doesn’t hurt him.
