After nearly three years of the salary cap system in the National Hockey League, nobody can come up with a way to fix it. The General Managers are catching a lot of flack from the teams and the players. They are thinking after three years of frozen salaries, they may be able to start paying the players again until they hit another cap. Some say you should give the raises to the top players in the league. There are no two situations alike though, and all the players will find some illegal loop hole for them to get a raise too. This is why the General Managers must keep the players unaware of what is going on with some of the top players. Sometimes it can be a ten percent all the way up to a thirty percent pay cap. Whoever owned the teams had to step in and try to straighten it all out. They didn’t want players leaving because of financial reasons.
Most of the players believe there will be a strike during the season. Owners weren’t listening to the teams and trying to force different policies that weren’t good for the team or the players. Money has become a ruling chip in this arena and it is hard for some of the newer players to keep up with the times. It is a sad world that causes the managers to do these types of lowdown tactics. But they do work sometimes, especially if you are looking for another person in another train car.

It was a busy Tuesday for the Dallas Star management as they went all out to acquire the Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brad Richards to play for them in a bid to reach the top of the Western Conference. The Dallas had to forgo their goalie Mike Smith, defensive center Halpern and specialist shootout player Jokinen, in order to bring in Richards ands Johan Holmqvist, he goalie into their team. Brad Richards was pretty much pleased with the Dallas for believing in him and he says that this opportunity will probably lead him to the playoffs and finally give him the opportunity to play in the Stanley Cup.
Les Jackson, the co- general manager of the Stars, feels that Richards can play a major role in the National Hockey League for the Dallas team and can help the team to get through their current troubles at the Western Conference. Les feels that Brad Richards is in the prime form of his career and has proved his abilities in the playoffs. Brett Hull, the co- manager of the Stars feels that Brad Richards is capable of playing with any combination of line mates and is a major addition to the Dallas Stars team.

Teemu Selanne was the star for the Anaheim Ducks in their 6 -3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. The three goals scored by Selanne have put him in the 25th position of the overall career scoring list and with these three goals he has had more goals than Rocket Richard. He has achieved a career best of 546 goals now and said that he knew pretty well about the career goal score of Richard. Selanne has played 1051 regular season games so far and knew what Rocket Richard had given for the game.
In fact, Teemu Selanne was the first person to receive the award that was given in honor of Richard Rocket, the Montreal Canadian star. The sort of gamesmanship that was displayed by Selanne in front of more than 17,000 fans not only stole the hearts of the fans but also has instilled the winning power into the Ducks team. The Anaheim victory is the fifth consecutive victory against the Chicago Blackhawks and is the fourth straight victory for the Ducks this season. The 10 time All Star Finnish player who was contemplating retirement as he was not playing the first half of the season is now having six goals in the ten games he has played this season.

The San Jose Sharks, who have been loosing their last five games, came up with a stellar performance on Thursday night to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3 – 1 at the Wachovia Center. The goal scorers for the Sharks were Jonathan Cheechoo, Milan Michalek and defenseman Douglas Murray. The Flyers team was not on top of the game and about 26 of their attempts on the goal were saved by the Sharks goal custodian Evegni Nabokov, who played the game with stitches on his nose. The Flyers have had a still poorer record than the Sharks prior to this game and have not defeated the Sharks since December 2001. Just before the match commenced, the Flyers honored the current Sharks center and former Philadelphia Flyers player Jeremy Roenick for achieving 500 career goals.
The game certainly had its moments of thrills and spills and half way through the first half, the left wings Jody and Riley had a brawl exchanging blows on each other for about 90 seconds. Mike Knuble was the lone goal scorer for the Philadelphia Flyers and the home crowd booed off the team after their ninth successive loss which could also see them out of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

John Paddock, the Ottawa Senators head coach had reset his team with top line combinations. The top three line alignment will now have the sense of familiarity. The captain Daniel Alfredsson is back together with Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley. The wingers Dean McAmmod and Chris Neil are reunited with the Centre Mike Fisher. Antoine Vermette together with Chris Kelly and the latest addition Cory Stillman w ill cover the left wing. Paddock feels that Dean, Neil and fisher plays better when they are together and Vermy ,Kelly and Cory with their speed and better hockey sense will provide the push the team needs.
Cory Stillman who was taken from the Carolina Hurricanes has given all the possible positions and is of opinion that within the first week it self he will play with each and every player in the line up. Paddock is confident that only a changing line up will be successful in the long run. Paddock has taken this decision with the consent of the players and has convinced them that this will help in familiarizing each and every player in the team as well as knowing which line ups are the best for the success of the team.

After six games of excitement, Sheldon Souray announced last Tuesday February 12, to the disappointment of Oilers fans, that he is cutting his season short because of a shoulder injury, which left him with a torn labrum and bicep. He will be undergoing surgery on Friday then will be on rehab afterward, and will not be able continue to play.
Thirty-one year old Souray signed a five-year $27 million contract with the Oilers last July. He got his injury when playing against Vancouver Canucks. After missing 25 games, he tried to come back on Dec 11 only to discover that it would take a while for his shoulder to heal. He missed another game on Jan 3, went back to play in 10 games, then left again on Jan 29. Souray describes the season as a challenging one. He finally decided to have his shoulder fixed now instead of delaying it, so that he will be sure to come back in top shape next year.
Coach Craig MacTavish originally set up the Oilers defenceman to take 25 minutes of play time each night. Souray also wanted to perform really well but was not able to do so because of his injury. Apart from Souray, the Oilers also lost Shawn Horcoff and Raffi Torres this season because of shoulder surgery and knee surgery, respectively.

The Anaheim Ducks players, management and the fans are really excited by the return of Teemu Selanne into the team for this season. Selanne was one of the top scores of the last season as he scored about 48 goals. The Stanley Cup championship also witnessed the heroics of Selanne on the hockey field. Selanne has signed a one year contract with the Anaheim Ducks and the signing price has not been disclosed. Though Selanne was contemplating on retirement at the end of the last season to spend some time with his kids, the offer by Burke and Samuels of Ducks might have been tempting enough for Selanne to sign the one year contract.
Selanne, in his recent press conference, said that he was pretty excited to be back playing for the Ducks and is looking forward to having a good time with his new teammates. Selanne said that the first practice session along with the Ducks was exciting as well as hard. He enjoyed the few sessions of practice he had with his new friends and said that it would be great to play with the Ducks as well as travel along with them. An exciting season is ahead for the Duck fans with a star goal scorer in their ranks.

Sidney Crosby, who plays center for the Pittsburgh Penguins, is now skating his right leg which was injured previously. It is just two and a half weeks since he suffered the injury but now he is back on his feet. This is really good news for the Penguins and their fans. Though he is not yet completely recovered, he has been doing some light skating for the past few days. And according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, he went through with his light skating before the team’s Wednesday practice in Mellon Arena. Crosby is the NHL’s present MVP. He obtained a sprain in his upper right ankle last January 18 when he crashed into the rear boards with his leg first. The Penguins lost the game that day to Tampa Bay Lightning. Crosby is not allowed to play for at least six to eight weeks, which will be until the middle of March. This means he will miss most of the remaining games for the season. Although the MVP can now lightly skate, according to the Penguins, there is still no prognosis as to when he can actually return to play again. This is Sidney Crosby’s first serious injury to date.
